The Field Service Engineer installs, repairs, retrofits, deinstalls, and supports Heller ovens while providing customer training and high-level technical support. The role focuses on complex diagnostics, root-cause analysis, effective repair, equipment uptime, and long-term reliability.
Important: Due to customer requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen and capable of passing a federal background check.
Job description
- Support Heller product lines at domestic US customers, Canada, and Mexico.
- Work directly with customers and internal teams to understand, rapidly diagnose, and resolve equipment issues efficiently at customer sites.
- Provide technical training at customer facilities to build a comprehensive understanding of equipment operation.
- Produce concise, comprehensive, and accurate documentation of test reports and work instructions.
- Provide diagnostic information, repair procedures, and specific technical assistance to distributors and customers.
- Perform root-cause failure analysis on subsystems, circuits, and components in a timely manner.
- Perform new machine installations, deinstallations, and field upgrades.
- Provide serviceability requirements and design-for-serviceability input for new product development programs.
- Create and assist in the release of engineering documentation, including bills of materials, engineering change orders, corrective action reports, and operational method sheets.
- Support logistics activities, including RMAs, FAs, inventory checks, and shipping, at local offices and customer sites.
- Offer technical applications support to end users.
Requirements
- Associate degree or higher in engineering or sciences; a BA or BS is preferred.
- Five or more years working as an engineering technician or field service engineer.
- Five or more years of experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, SMT equipment, and/or semiconductor equipment.
- Familiarity with root-cause identification and problem-solving approaches such as 7-step or 8D.
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel to customer facilities up to 80% of the time and work weekends as critical needs arise.
- Ability to travel internationally on occasion to support global customers.
- Spanish-language proficiency is a plus.
Work requirements and conditions
- Ability to sit for two to three hours at a time.
- Ability to transport tool kits weighing approximately 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb over equipment, sometimes in narrow spaces, for repairs.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and perform tasks involving stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
- Ability to obtain full-face respirator certification and perform machine work in PPE, including a respirator, hazmat suit, and gloves.
