The Mechanical Engineer II designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and delivery system solutions. This role drives creative approaches to solve complex design challenges centered on performance, reliability, supportability, usability, and cost-effectiveness.

Work Location: Based in Heller’s offices in Florham Park, NJ. Heller will consider candidates to work hybrid after successful acclimation, with travel to the office as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and delivery.
  • Generate new and creative approaches to solving problems centered on performance, reliability, supportability, usability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Controllably push the limits of mechanical design as it relates to product delivery.
  • Support manufacturing with design, fabrication, and assembly improvements.
  • Uses 3D CAD / SolidWorks models for new designs followed up with 2D and assembly drawings for release to manufacturing.
  • Review and certify all 2D and assembly drawings for final release to manufacturing.
  • Conducts analysis and tests to determine weaknesses and failures.
  • Design and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of product designs.
  • Study industrial processes to determine where and how application of equipment can be made.
  • Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products.
  • Support and work closely with sales and service teams for customer demands. Gather and analyze customer feedback for continuous improvement proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant industrial experience required (a Master’s degree can augment 2 years of the experience requirement).
  • Specialist on complex technical and business matters.
  • Knowledge of thermal systems and related heat transfer applications is a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3D/2D design tools, such as SolidWorks (or AutoCAD).
  • Mechanical aptitude skills including proven mechanical design experience.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design including GD&T, structural, and thermal analysis.
  • Must have a good understanding of machining and fabrication as it relates to mechanical design.
  • Well versed in mechanical designs with sheet metal for structural and cosmetic applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Mechanical Engineering degree; Master’s ideal.
  • Knowledge of thermal systems and related heat transfer applications.
  • Knowledge of thermal processing systems.
  • Knowledge of equipment for the Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing industries.
